Rob and I have settled into a routine of being “fun-employed” (not unemployed), spending a lot more time together as we cruise between cities managing our short-term accommodation properties in Hamilton (English Tudor House), Auckland (Prestigious Princes Wharf) and Rangataua, near Ohakune(Middle Earth Cottage).
In between we have both become increasingly involved in Zenders Café and Venue, the venture two of my sisters (Teresa and Monique) and I have undertaken, to build a replica of our great-grandfather’s farmhouse in the Netherlands, in the Waikato. Earlier this year we got a building consent, and commenced building in October. The earthworks are now completed, the floor poured and the walls are taking shape! The excitement is rising as realization is setting in that it is really happening. We hope to open in December 2018. Find us on FB: Zenders Café and Venue.
This year was also one for another milestone -my big 60, which we celebrated with a family trip down the Wanganui River, attempting to do the Mountains to the Sea cycle tour. Unfortunately, the weather prevented more than one day of cycling, but it was a great together time.
In January, however, we managed a fantastic 6-day cycle tour in the South Island -Alps to Ocean (A2O), beginning at the foot of Mt Cook, then following down the lakes and Waitaki River to Oamaru. Oma (Betsy’s) sister Giny from Holland joined us, as did Oma, but as our chauffeur, driving our camper van between stops. A wonderful way to see the country, and something we plan to do a lot more of.
Well, with our family growing as partners join our children adding to their stories, there is much to look forward to in the coming years. We wish you a peaceful and joyful Christmas with your loved ones and every blessing in the year ahead.
